The 1st Philippine Zero Waste Fair was held at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City on 22 – 24 January 2015.
The fair exhibited different organizations and small businesses that are pursuers of the Solid Waste Management Act of the Philippines, or the R.A. 9003. More about the Act here.
The exhibitors in the fair varied from the very popular organizations to lesser known businesses. It was an avenue for all the participants to bring about the importance of recycling / reusing materials, and proper disposal to non-disposal of our solid wastes. There were free workshops, trading of products, and sharing of ideas and practices about waste management.
Many of the people who went to the fair found it a great activity that they would expect more events like it in the future. I asked an ice cream vendor nearby about her opinion on the Zero Waste Fair, she said, “Para sa environment yan.” The fair indeed was a great project to raise awareness on environmental issues. Even to common people like the ice cream vendor and myself.
The ZERO Waste Fair was made possible by the following organizers:
• Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA)
• EcoWaste Coalition (EWC)
• Mother Earth Foundation (MEF)
• Health Care Without Harms (HCWH)
